NOTICE TO MOTORISTS Big Island International Marathon Sunday, March 15th, 2020 Havi Tropical Botarical Garden 7.8mi) The Big Island International Marathon begins at 6:00 a.m. at Bayfront Hilo and ends by 1:00 p.m. The race travels out Bayfront Hwy up to the Botanical Gardens in Onomea and back along the same path. Runners then loop around Liliokalani Gardens, head out just past Richardson's Beach Park, and return back to Bay Front to finish. Onowea Bay The actual roads used are as follows: Runners head out from Bayfront Hwy north along Hwy 19 across the "Singing Bridge," and turn right onto Nahala St., left onto Kahoa St. and go past Honoli'l Beach Park. Runners stay on Kahoa St. until it merges with Kulana St. where they continue to head north back to Hwy 19. Runners then take a left off Hwy 19 and head onto Mamalahoa Hwy passing Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole School. Runners cross Hwy 19 and continue through the 4 mile scenic rte. on Old Mamalahoa Hwy until they reach the Tropical Botanical Garden. Runners then turn around and follow the same path back to Hilo. Passing through Bayfront, runners head out south and turn left at Lihiwai St. and follow the Ocean side of the road and turn left again back at Banyan Dr. Runners then turn left at Banyan Way (passing Ice Ponds) and left onto Kalanianaole Ave. Runners turn left into Onekahakaha Rd., turn around at about 200 yards, head back out and turn left back onto Kalanianaole Ave. Runners turn left onto Kamokua St. and right onto Keaukaha St. until turning left again back onto Kalanianaole Ave. At the end of the pavement, just past Richardson's Beach Park, runners turn around, head back and turn at the first left onto Uwau St. and right onto Nene St. until they reach back to Kalanianaole Ave. Runners then take a left at Silva St. and turn right onto Keaa St. Runners turn left back onto Kalanianole Ave. and turn right back to Banyan Way. Runners then return the same path back to Bayfront to the finish. Approximately 750 runners are expected on the course (Liliwai St. from Hwy 19 will have the Ocean side lane partially closed and (Liliwai St. will be closed from Banyan Dr. to Banyan Drive ) on the Ocean side from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to traffic, but open to the public on foot or bicycles. Hilo Bayfront Recreation Area will be closed from Saturday March 14th, 1:00 p.m. to Sunday March 15th, 6:00 p.m. For more information call BIIMA at 464-0333.
